Professionals http://asap.maddoktor2.com/ One such organisation is http://www.hijackthis.nl/ - about which I have no concerns. It was once recommended that I use *this* facility:-- http://www.hijackthis.de (Note that this is a German site) . Whilst I have been advised by PA Bear that 'automated' facilities should *never* be used to review a Hijackthis log, for experimental purposes I have done so on many occasions. Perhaps that has been a mistake ........ but it has been interesting! If anyone has any experience of using this facility, I'd be most interested to learn their views on same. Dave John D |

Yes, it is a German site. Is this the reason you are asking? > Whilst I have been advised by PA Bear that 'automated' facilities > should *never* be used to review a Hijackthis log, Never? That's bad advice. It is actually a good place to start. > for experimental purposes I have done so on many occasions. Perhaps > that has been a mistake ........ but it has been interesting! I've used it many times, and have never seen it make a misteak. -- -bts -Friends don't let friends drive Windows Beauregard T. Shagnasty |

No, I don't use them to authoritatively declare that I'm clean or dirty. I use such online scanner to ONLY identify *known* hijacks. I still have to go through the complete log and review each entry. It just helps if something already known is flagged for you so you don't miss it during your manual scan. VanguardLH |

Is this the reason you are asking? I'm really seeking confirmation that it isn't a bogus site - a spoof on the ASAP site I also mentioned. I've never seen the help forum there being recommended by helpers on any Microsoft newsgroup. There is a special section in English. >> Whilst I have been advised by PA Bear that 'automated' facilities >> should *never* be used to review a Hijackthis log, > > Never? That's bad advice. It is actually a good place to start. I agree. I've often copied HJT logs from distraught computer users (posting in 'help' forums around the 'net) and pasted them into the facility - invariably 'problems' have been highlighted. Good leads for further investigation IMO. >> for experimental purposes I have done so on many occasions. Perhaps >> that has been a mistake ........ but it has been interesting! I don't see any relation between the two. This ASAP site looks more like a linkfarm than anything else. The site itself appears to be only four pages <shrug>, other than the forum, which I did not bother to spend time reading. > I've never seen the help forum there being recommended by helpers on > any Microsoft newsgroup. There is no handholding like there is in the moderated forums. >> I've used it many times, and have never seen it make a **misteak**. > > It's really good to know that some geeks still retain a sense of > humour! Life is too short to not have a sense of humour. <g> -- -bts -Friends don't let friends drive Windows Beauregard T. Shagnasty |
