like 5 tcp ports open for god knows what i have ports

Go to GRC.com and get Shields Up and then run the test again.
It's free and very tiny.

You are not using any antivirus or firewall software? Your programs that
you are running are opening those ports to communicate with websites, or to
gather information from the internet, to talk to hackers who probably
already have gained access to your computer, etc. You have probably already
suffered an attack and don't even realize it. If you bank online, do
finance online, stocks, pay bills, buy books, buy anything, or any other
security specific operating online and are not using a firewall or
antivirus--I would IMMEDIATELY wipe your hard drive completely, reinstall
everything from scratch and also close and change your bank account, and
stock account numbers, and passwords. It would be a very simple thing for
someone to get you to install a keylogger and steal your passwords, and all
other sensitive information which you may conduct. Conceivably, anyone
could also gather enough information about you to do all sorts of evil and
nefarious things with your information. I got over the "fly under the radar
and hope for the best" attitude A LONG time ago--you should too....it only
takes a few minutes to set the software up and given what could possibly
happen the cost of about $60 for the software does not outweigh the benefits
that would be provided to you with a little effort. As someone else put
it--you really are a stastic waiting to happen.

stealing passwords or whatever else they want to do and i felt exactly as

you would also do well to get a router to put in place between
your cable modem and computer... it would be $20 well spent,
and easier to setup than you might think...
