This error just started occurring after everytime I open or close Outlook or
try to open Access. Windows Installer for Microsoft Office will start up
and then display a message saying that the network resource is unavailabl
and prompts for the data1.msi file.

I tried inserting the office CD and pointing to data1.msi but that didn't
work. Message says it's not valid?

Bert is quite correct. Click on Add remove programs to see the office
version you have installed.
