you can get the updates on a cd from microsoft. The last version came
out in february so it is getting alittle old but it is a good start to doing the updates. Just remember to go to the update site after doing the cd to pick up the new updates released since the cd. Here is the link to the microsoft site to order the cd http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/ I find it handle to use on pc's with dial ups that I am working on onsite. Also if you have a highspeed connection get yourself a router/firewall to help cutdown on these viruses hitting you before you get the updates. I have heard about this "instant Virus" syndrome. I Cant belive that the 'net is that clogged. I have ran a Win 2k or XP box on the net wide open before and come away unscathed. But I have connected on dialup before (at the height of blaster) and instantly gotten infected. Best advice I have if you are really getting "instant viruses". (Besides Changing your ISP). Make a SP4 (for win2k) and a SP1 (XP) Slipstream CD. Mine are all slipstreamed, and unattended installs as well. The slipstream includes all of the most recent up-to date patches, and the unattended install saves a lot of time. The other thing is to go buy a small NAT router. I found one at Goodwill for $3. Its an older model SpeedStream or somthing like that, but it blocks all the ports, instant firewall, and my installs go down clean. You have a third option too (I am throwing this one out for the /. crowd). Boot Knoppix, download all the updates to the hard drive, install Windoze, apply patches.
