I have 4 PCs linked together with a switch. I have 2 of the computers
running Win 2K proff and the other 2 are running Win98. I have 1 of the Win2k connected to ADSL, 2NICs ,1 of the NIC connected to the switch Lan with static IP(192.168.0.1) and the 2Nic connected to the ISP Router(WAN) and this card automatically get IP from my ISP and this is shared. The rest of the machine can connect to the Internet without problem. Recently one of the Win98 internet explorer default start-page was change after I visited some website. I replaced with another start page, next time I open Internet explorer the site is reset. I tried to use some adware software to remove all the temp files, there ware a lot of toolbar stuff and I deleted all. Now the 2 Win98 machines and one of the Win2k proff can not connect to the Internet. The main Win2k proff that have the IP 192.168.0.1 is still connected to the Internet and also the internet sharing is still enabled. The machines can ping one another without problem. I keep on getting dns error. Even if I have tried to set the ip and the dns to static still they are unable to connect to the Internet. When I click on the Internet explorer, the address of the website that attached itself to the startup page is still appearing but unable to connect the dns error will appear after a while. Can somebody advice me what to do and where to local this files in my machine so that I can manually delete them Thanks in advance newbies |

I would scan those PCs thorougly for viruses/scumware - make sure antivirus
and spyware removal progs up to date. And make sure all OS's are up to date! Once you get some of this scumware by visiting some shady sites, it is VERY difficult/impossible to remove. You may need to just start over.... -- John www.pccitizen.com Safe Computing, Home wired and wireless networking tips.
