Hi -

Not sure if it's something new, but the computer icons in the little local
network indicator in my taskbar are black like 80% of the time. Is this
normal or an indication of a problem?

Any suggestions for a fix?

I'm running windows 2k.

If you mean the Network Activity icon in your task bar, that flash blue when
transmitting/receiving, then yes they should be black when your not working
or sending/receving data.
