I am starting studying for the A+ exams. I have this book EXAM PREP A+
(2000, coriolis), from what I can tell it seems to be based on the pre
2001 objectives, it talks about win 3.1, win 95 & win NT. It has over
1000 pages, and seems pretty comprehensive.

Would this book plus general IT experience be enough to pass A+

I think you should take some test exams that will help determine weather you
are ready for the exams. There are many A+ free test exams online you can
try..
