remote desktop issue

I've been playing with the eval version of win2k3 for the last few
weeks on my home network, and things have been going good. However, within
the last week, I have not been able to use remote desktop to access my
server. When I use it, I can log in, and it says loading settings, applying
settings, saving settings, and then closes the connection. Another scenario
is that I can log in and it just gives a blank screen. I haven't figure out
what is going on here and need to see if anyone has run into this problem
before, or how to solve this.

Also, TS is not enabled, and the "allow users..." is checked. I also tried
unchecking it, rebooting, checking it, reboot, and still I receive the same
response. Since I am part of the admin group, I already have access. I also
tried to login using the administrator login, and another test acct that I
created that has admin rights and they as well receive the same messages. I
don't have any updates installed.

Thanks!

Try disabling Remote Desktop, rebooting then re-enabling it.

I've seen SpyBot produce these results when installed.

I had a problem like this in ts

You can use either Terminal Services Manager or the reset session
command to reset a Terminal Services session. If you reset a user's
session, all of the programs that are currently running are closed and
the session is immediately deleted from the server that is running
Terminal Services. You may want to reset a session in situations in
which the session is not functioning correctly or if the session has
stopped responding.

1. To reset the session of user1 by using the session name, type
the following line at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

reset session rdp-tcp#1

User1 receives the following message:

The Terminal server has ended the connection.

Hope this helps

I also had a very similar problem to this. I had everything setup
properly but when I tried to connect remotely, it would
seem to log on properly and just disconnect me and close the connection.
It was very frustrating.

I found though that it was the NVIDIA drivers I was running. To allow
the remote desktop connection to work I had to disable the NVIDIA driver
service, at which point I rebooted and hey presto, I was able to log on
remotely.

May I also mention that the same drivers caused me problems on the
clients as well. Everytime I would log off the roaming profile would
not be updated. This too was due to the NVIDIA service.

Of course this is all academic if you don't use NVIDIA drivers, but
someone may find it useful...

PS. if you still want the NVIDIA Service, you can create a GPO that
launches the service when the user logs on and off which stops the
roaming profile problem...
