How do I apply a profile

Hi, I'm up to Moduel 5 and am stuck on the 'User Configuration Module'.
I've done exactly as the guy does but when I log on as the user with the new
profile nothing has changed. I don't have the same background as the
profiled person that I copied etc etc.
Could some one please help me with this?
