Hi everyone!

Brand new to newsgroups and first post (yay for me).

Just started my MCDST as well (last night in fact!), I have no IT
back-ground in the working sense, just messing about with my machine at home
and usually helping my friends fix theirs when things go wrong, all self
learnt (trial and error mostly).

I have to say it feels a little daunting looking at the Tomes that are the
271 and 272 study books. But I'm really excited to finally be doing this and
actually have a career direction to be going in.

Given I'm starting the MCDST without any 'real world' support experience I
hope I'm not out of my depth, so, expect to see me here asking plenty of
questions, or at least asking for someone to point me in the right direction
for information.

So again, hi everyone and I look forward to being on here for the duration

Best regards to all,

Magimix

Hi Magimix

Firstly, welcome to the newsgroup!

My advice to you would be to try to get some "real world" experience as soon
as possible, as not only will this make your MCDST studies easier, but it
will also back up the certification on your CV. I know from experience that
this is much easier said than done, due to the shortage of entry-level IT
Support positions, but have you thought about offering your services free to
a local charity?

As no one text book contains everything you will need to know for the exam,
I also recommend getting a second textbook (I used the Exam Cram books) to
fill in the gaps. Microsoft TechNet on the Web is also a good place to
look - and it's free.

All the best.

Many thanks for the warm welcome!

Yes I do realise that my lack of real experience is a problem, but i had not
thought of offering to help a local charity, cracking idea and I shall look
into this for sure.
I do work full time during the day so my time is limited, but I will try to
investigate something that will help me in that respect.

I had seen the exam cram book(s) and wondered how useful it would be?? But
if you have found it useful then it is certainly worth a look.

See, I'm learning already, how cool

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the sig, didn't notice it.
Cheers for now.

You're welcome. If you're willing to do the initial research don't be afraid
to ask for help. I'll be glad to fill in the blanks for you where I can.
