CompTIA Network+ validates the knowledge and skills of networking
professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that
recognizes a technician's ability to describe the features and functions
of networking components and to install, configure and troubleshoot
basic networking hardware, protocols and services. Although not a
prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA Network+ candidates have at
least nine months of experience in network support or administration or
adequate academic training, along with a CompTIA A+ certification.

The A+ Core Hardware and the A+ Operating Systems Technologies exams
measure essential competencies for a desktop computer hardware service
technician. These exams provide excellent hardware and foundational
knowledge of a computer. The MCDST credential is focused specifically on
the desktop support technician working in a service desk environment.
The MCDST exams go beyond the basics and focus on diagnosis and
assessment of end-user incident requests on the Microsoft Windows
operating system and the applications that run on it. The MCDST exams
include troubleshooting procedures consistent with the Microsoft
Operations Framework.
