I'm new here. I have a B.S. in Computer Science but that
piece of paper doesn't carry much weight right now. I
currently work as a Computer Support Technician but it's
not where I want to be for the rest of my life. Is
becoming certified better than obtaining a master's
degree? Who has any advice for the the route I should
take if I want to stay more on the software side of
things? I appreciate any help.

From the networking side, MS certification is not worth much if you already
have experience. However I can't say if an MC certification would help you
with a programming job. You might want to try the cert.visualstudio group or
something like that.
