Yes, market forces -- let's think about that. Asus tried to create a market
for cheaper nix-based netbooks, but it turned out that the demand for
Windows was much greater. Asus discovered that it could sell many more
Windows-powered EEEs at a premium price and so greatlyi mporve its
profitability. Partnering then with Microsoft to get a cut rate on Windows 7
was a no-brainer.
