I need basics about quicktime

Help!! I am trying to upload some videos (movies and television shows) onto my Itunes and I cannot open any video files in my Quicktime 7, much less export them to AppleTV. I have subscribed to Quicktime Pro.

Could someone tell me the step by step instructions to do this? It would be greatly appreciated.
