What will happen if you ignore such spammers rather than reply? Nothing,
except the post will become invisible to those of us with decent spam
filtering.

IOW, if you ignore it, it will go away and many of us won't ever know it
existed. When you reply, it becomes visible and just adds to the noise.
Your reply is only falling on deaf ears, anyway, since spammers like
this person aren't monitoring replies on Usenet.
