Zdnet.uk article sponsored by Intel, IBM, Oracle:

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,1...9498926,00.htm

"The international standards body ISO has offered to help maintain the ODF
document standard alongside its work on the rival Microsoft-originated OOXML
specification, saying its creator Oasis is not dealing with defect reports
quickly enough."

OASIS was apparently only interested in using ODF as a battering ram against
Microsoft Office. When that effort failed miserably, it left ODF supporters
in the lurch. Some countries like Brazil, India, and South Africa actually
took ODF seriously -- Can you imagine!?! -- and thought OASIS (i.e., IBM and
Sun) would maintain ODF as a usable standard.
