Firefox 2.0.0.16 keeps downloading/installing.

For about a month now, Firefox keeps telling my I have a new update for
Firefox 2 - update 2.0.0.16 to be precise. When I download and install it,
all seems to be fine....for about a day. Then I get the same message and it
has to re-install this very same update. But whenever I click the 'About'
tab, it claims I already have version 2.0.0.16.

It is driving me nuts.....it is literally every day this happens. I know
some will say upgrade to Firefox 3, but I have my reasons for not wanting
to....and it is besides the point, as Firefox 2 should work fine. Please
help me. It will be most appreciated.

are you sure its a FF download and not an extensions or
theme update? Either way, then turn it off: Tools,
Options, Advanced, and Update and make your selections
there.

No, it's definitely telling me Firefox needs to download the update 2.0.0.16
of the browser itself, which I already have. I shall take your advice
though, thank you.

Cheers, I have just done that and will now switch updates back on to see if
the problem persists. I suspect this was exactly the fix I was looking for
as it described my problem precisely.
