Default Run/Stop a counter using a train of pulses

Hi folks

I have a train of pulses .. each pulse is separated from its preceding pulse by a number of clock cycles .. I want to design a counter that counts these clock cycles .. in other words, this counter should start counting once the first pulse comes, and ends/resets once the next pulse comes ..

Anyone has a VHDL code for that ?
