As far as the batteries go the EN-EL3e from the D80 will work in the D70.
However, the EN-EL3 doesn't have the extra contacts of the EN-EL3e and will
not work in the D80. Same for the chargers at least as far as backward
compatibility. The MH-18a charger supplied with the D80 will charge the D70
battery. Now sure of the other way.

I have a D300 (en-el3e) and a D70s (en-el3), both came with the same charger.

Yes, the MH-18a. However, the D70 comes with the MH-18. I own a D70, D200
and D300. To be honest I've never been curious enough to try charging an
EN-EL3E with it. I just been using the MH-18a from the D200.
