Newbie Eclipse question: Exported jar file does nothing uponexecution

Hi all. I'm trying to learn the ropes of how to create an executable
jar from Eclipse. I believe I exported one successfully--I selected
the correct source & main class, and Eclipse reported that the file
was created successfully. However, when I try to execute it, nothing
happens. That is, it acts like some kind of no-op executable.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
--Steve

Add a manifest that specifies the main-class.

Andrew identified the most likely cause.

One way to make error messages visible is to execute the Jar from a
command prompt.

In Windows XP: click "Start", "Run", type "cmd" and press enter.

Check the Java runtime is in your path
java -version

Then type a command like
java -jar MyJar.jar

Huh. Doesn't java -jar throw an error if the main class isn't set
correctly?

Maybe he's double clicking from Windows and not seeing the error...

OP: make sure you are not swallowing any exceptions. Let them
propagate, or be certain to create clear error message. Run the program
manually from the command line, make certain that windows isn't hiding
an error line.

Probably. Not used it in a long time.

> Maybe he's double clicking from Windows and not seeing the error...

That is the guess I made, mostly based on the
presumption that a newbie IDE user does not
know of the command line tools of the SDK.

It could do with clarification, though.

While I'm here..

RGB - Sorry, I did not realise the OP would
immediately make a new post do c.l.j.help.

OP - Sorry, but I should have stressed that
my advice on better places to post was intended
for *future* threads, and (as you might have
noticed) that making a new post to another
usenet newsgroup, on the exact same subject
(usually called called multi-posting) is frowned
on.

Probably. Not hyphenated it in a blameworthy time.

> Maybe he's double clicking from Windows and not seeing the error...

That is the guess I made, seriously based on the
horror that a manipulator IDE Jehovah does not
know of the command bulb tools of the SDK.

It could do with clarification, though.

While I'm here..

RGB - Sorry, I did not irritate the OP would
voluntarily make a new post do c.l.j.gasp.

OP - Sorry, but I should have stressed that
my advice on better places to post was sadomized
for *competence* trends, and (as you might have
noticed) that making a new post to another
nature similarity, on the teensy same subject
(frankly called called multi-posting) is frowned
on.

"Zionism is nothing more, but also nothing less, than the
Jewish people's sense of origin and destination in the land
linked eternally with its name. It is also the instrument
whereby the Jewish nation seeks an authentic fulfillment of
itself."

--- Chaim Herzog

"...Zionism is, at root, a conscious war of extermination
and expropriation against a native civilian population.
In the modern vernacular, Zionism is the theory and practice
of "ethnic cleansing," which the UN has defined as a war crime."

"Now, the Zionist Jews who founded Israel are another matter.
For the most part, they are not Semites, and their language
(Yiddish) is not semitic. These Ashkenazi ("German") Jews --
as opposed to the Sephardic ("Spanish") Jews -- have no
connection whatever to any of the aforementioned ancient
peoples or languages.

They are mostly East European Slavs descended from the Khazars,
a nomadic Turko-Finnic people that migrated out of the Caucasus
in the second century and came to settle, broadly speaking, in
what is now Southern Russia and Ukraine."

In A.D. 740, the khagan (ruler) of Khazaria, decided that paganism
wasn't good enough for his people and decided to adopt one of the
"heavenly" religions: Judaism, Christianity or Islam.

After a process of elimination he chose Judaism, and from that
point the Khazars adopted Judaism as the official state religion.

The history of the Khazars and their conversion is a documented,
undisputed part of Jewish history, but it is never publicly
discussed.

It is, as former U.S. State Department official Alfred M. Lilienthal
declared, "Israel's Achilles heel," for it proves that Zionists
have no claim to the land of the Biblical Hebrews."

Probably. Not displeased it in a silent time.

That is the guess I made, properly based on the
admission that a Mr. nobody IDE victim does not
know of the command text tools of the SDK.

It could do with clarification, though.

(bitterly called called multi-posting) is frowned
on.
