So, who was the bright bulb at Paramount to take the $100 million
payola from the HD-DVD camp, only to have the entire empire fall out
from underneath them? Ooooops!

I recall Michael Bay, whom made the recent Transformers movie, saying
that the move by Pramount was moronic...and that his next movie would
be released in Blu-Ray, even if he had to go to another studio.

Looks like I will be buying my Transformers 2 movie in Blu-Ray
ANYWAY!!!

The one who thought it would be a good idea that Toshiba was using their
"promotional incentive" money to fund Paramount's "Star Trek:TOS"
restoration, on the demand it be HD and AVC-coding only.

Current word is, no Toshiba, no money, no AVC, no Trek.
We're hoping the BDA can negotiate at least *one* point out of the
Toshiba post-surrender peace talks, if we want to see more AVC-coded Blu's.

If you recall (and I know you do), the remastered TOS was originally
supposed to be released on both formats, with the BluRay version being
"delayed" for a few months behind the HD-DVD version. The "delayed"
discs were quickly forgotten about when Paramount went HD-DVD-
Exclusive.

It can't take that much effort on their part to dust off that project
and get it ready to go.

As Gord Lacey at TVShowsonDVD.com points out, somebody still has to pay
the development bills before the disks can hit the shelves--
(That's one of the reasons the 2.0 episodes turned up on syndicated TV,
after all, to try and raise a little pocket change.)

With all the episode-remastering work finally finished and aired by now,
it's theoretically *possible* that Paramount's CBS-DVD division could
(literally) gamble enough cash to squeeze Season 1 out onto Blu, and use
the sales profits to fund Season 2...
Although it'd be squeezing a few pints of blood from CBS-DVD's rock,
never mind Paramount's at this point.

Paramount has never turned down a chance to milk us trekkies for more
money, I don't think they'll start now. Maybe they'll wait until the
market is bigger or until the cost of production goes down, I dunno.
But there is no way I'll believe that all this work was done on those
episodes for them to NOT wind up on BluRay at some point or other.

Now, to me personally, it's no big deal. I've already got TOS on SD
DVD... I want Enterprise!

I've always laughed at the "selling point" of a shitty movie like
Transformers on hd-dvd.

I have the entire collection of ST-TOS in SD DVD.. Spent a lot of effort
ripping the individual shows to my server and have a list in VMC with My
Movies to play the shows.

I look at the HD DVD versions and decided this is one set I will not be
repurchasing in any HDM format..

The difference is not enough for the price of the update to the HDM format

-

I'll still scarf up HDDVD deals on titles I like and will likely not
repurchase most of this in bluray..

I have a couple of dozen bluray titles - but only play via my HTPC.

At this point - I'm not satisfied with any bluray player even going with
with a PS3..

I'm not a gamer at all.........

I hope the XA2 and A35 prices do not start going up now..................

Shitty or not, it had great special effects, so it might make a good
demo disc, for the right price.

The fact that it was originally *supposed* to sell on both would've
helped defray costs considerably.

(Not to mention all those Combo sales to the DVD fans waiting for the
2.0 series, and hey kids, howzabout that free Phaser-remote with your
new Toshiba player!)

You ain't got THIS one, pal. And that's coming from one who's watched
it on the digital stations.

Derek Janssen (yes, I LIKED those new CGI-scenery insert shots on the
"Amok Time" episode. So there. Nyeh.)

Paramount still got the 100M, so why would anyone get fired?
