Hi,
I have been using a very dependable Logitech cordless wheel mouse for about five years. It periodically gets dusty inside and I have often opened up the bottom and cleaned off the hard rubber ball and the rolling connectors. Recently the scroll wheel is acting like it's a victim of dust too. But I have been unable find a way to get in to that mechanism to clean it out. The Logitech site doesn't offer help because they don't seem to make that exact mouse any longer. Does anyone know whether there is a way to get into the front half of this pointing device? Fortunately this is not an expensive item and I can buy a new one but I'd like to keep using this one if possible. TIA -- Larry Smith "In this country anyone can grow up to be President. An optical mouse won't help/avoid dust in a scroll wheel. Get a can of compressed air and see if you can blow the dust out. I have an old OPTICAL mouse that I frequently have to blow dust out of the scroll wheel when it begins to work intermittently. tom |

Commonly these are hidden under the Teflon pads or the model label. Just peel them off and unscrew. Best Paul. PeeCee |

Hiya Laurence Smith.

No it wont, but an optical mouse doesnt use mechanical means to scroll so is
relatively unaffected by the dust which clogs a mechanical mouse "tom" <> wrote in message news:... > > "old man" <> wrote in message > news:fNOlj.17971$g%... >> save yourself the trouble, buy an optical mouse >> >> "Laurence Smith" <> wrote in message >> news:%FOlj.13654$%p6.1061@trndny06... >> > Hi, >> > I have been using a very dependable Logitech cordless wheel mouse for >> > about five years. >> > It periodically gets dusty inside and I have often opened up the bottom >> > and cleaned off the hard rubber ball and the rolling connectors. >> > >> > Recently the scroll wheel is acting like it's a victim of dust too. > > An optical mouse won't help/avoid dust in a scroll wheel. Yep, I've done that - it opens like a clam shell after you undo the screws. It can't hurt to try, after all the alternative is to get a new one. I don't recommend the air blower, but use rubbing alcohol to remove the goo. Rick M |
