Default getting dust out of scroll wheel

Hi,
I have been using a very dependable Logitech cordless wheel mouse for
about five years.
It periodically gets dusty inside and I have often opened up the bottom
and cleaned off the hard rubber ball and the rolling connectors.

Recently the scroll wheel is acting like it's a victim of dust too.
But I have been unable find a way to get in to that mechanism to clean
it out.
The Logitech site doesn't offer help because they don't seem to make
that exact mouse any longer.

Does anyone know whether there is a way to get into the front half of
this pointing device?

Fortunately this is not an expensive item and I can buy a new one but
I'd like to keep using this one if possible.

TIA

An optical mouse won't help/avoid dust in a scroll wheel. Get a can of
compressed air and see if you can blow the dust out. I have an old OPTICAL
mouse that I frequently have to blow dust out of the scroll wheel when it
begins to work intermittently.

Larry
The screws holding on the top are accessed from underneath the mouse.
Commonly these are hidden under the Teflon pads or the model label.
Just peel them off and unscrew.

Best
Paul.

Given the price of canned air, I'd reclassify the mouse as a consumable...

Hiya Laurence Smith.

Are you confident enough to attack it with a screwdriver?

Dismantle it completely (as far as screws/clips go), clean it out and put
it back together again.

No it wont, but an optical mouse doesnt use mechanical means to scroll so is
relatively unaffected by the dust which clogs a mechanical mouse

Snipped
They mean the Scroll wheel, not the roller ball.

Yep, I've done that - it opens like a clam shell after you undo the
screws. It can't hurt to try, after all the alternative is to get a
new one. I don't recommend the air blower, but use rubbing alcohol to
remove the goo.
