Default Kaspersky v ESET

I don't want to start a flame war and please don't tell me to switch to
Linux! I've been looking at AV software and internet security suites.
Norton is absolutely o-u-t and CA doesn't fully support x64. I've narrowed
is down to Kaspersky and ESET Smart Security. These are the only two that
completely support x64 architecture. Kaspersky's a little more expensive and
I don't need 3 licenses but can't buy just one. I would like some honest
opinions as to ease of use, reliability, system resources, etc., before I
make up my mind

Specs:
XP Pro x64, SP2
Athlon 64 x2 dual 6000+
2 GB RAM

Thanks for your help!

So why mention it?

I think KP gets about 98% detection rates. There are lots of online
reviews, www.google.com for some.

Isn't that more like 1 purchase (1 license) allows install on 3 PCs?

Maybe not
http://www.kaspersky.com/store
has 1 / 3 / 5 and 10 PC options.

See the existing and many threads on AV / antispyware, and no you aren't
the first, for x64 Windows in

If, say, you need only two, just make two separate purchases. When you renew
your subscription next year, the price will drop significantly.

Both programs have trial periods. Why don't you try before you buy. I bought
a single license for KAV after discovering ESET kept corrupting and needing
to be re-installed on my machine.

As mentioned both have a trial version, go here
http://vx.netlux.org/ collections
and download as much malware as you need to check each version.

NOD will catch them as ZIP files (very nice), Kaspersky you might have
to unzip them to catch em.

I run NOD32 it catches about 3/4 (last test), but I only stick to one
type when I test.

What an absolutely excellent suggestion. I feel like a total dunderhead for
not thinking of it. Much appreciated!

Thanks for all responses. And why?--I threw in that comment about Linux
because there's usually some smart butt who pops in and suggest a switch to
Ubuntu (or whatever flavor) to solve all my PC problems. It gets old and it
doesn't help.

I've just d/loaded ESET to give it a test drive. Kaspersky next...

Then just ignore it, you have noticed it's a standard reply to often a
problem it won't solve saying that there are times when it is
useful. Mostly annoying my manager, it makes a great LAN monitoring tool
(but it's not Win) and drives him nuts at the same time.

Would be good to hear how you get on with it. Seems to be a mixed
response in the x64 newsgroup mentioned. Even free avg/avast in use, 1
post says 32/64 don't matter as scanners look for signatures.

Give me a week or so. FYI, I'm trying out the suites, not the AV, but I'll
report back.
