The most recent edition of Redmond magazine indicated that the MCSE and MCSA
certifications might not be of as much benefit as the new MCTS and MCITP.

Locally (Houston), a number of companies are adopting Vista and several are
looking at moving to Server 2008.

My question is this - would it be wiser to complete the Vista MCTS, and then
move to Server 2008 when it's released (and eventually Exchange Server 2007)?

It looks like you've answered your own question. Will you be working for
those companies that are adopting Vista and Server 2008? Many companies are
going to stay on 2003. Are you going to work for those companies?

This isn't a question that we can answer for you. You really need to
evaluate what is right for you, who you will be working for, how you can and
how you will market yourself, etc, etc.

Personally, my company probably won't move to Server 2008 for a long time.
Heck, we just moved off NT about a year and a half ago. As to Vista, my
team (including me) is learning that right now because it is becomming more
and more difficult for my company to acquire replacement desktops with XP.
So, Vista will more or less barge itself in here.

Thanks - everything that I've read thus far indicates that keeping up to
date with the latest (i.e. Vista, Server 2008, etc) is of benefit. Add to
that having a good working knowledge of Server 2003 and Exchange.

My question is do you have any experience in what you want to pursue. If
no, then stop worrying about certification and get you some experience
with the technology you want to be certified in. Regardless if it is
W2k3, W2k8, XP, or Vista. What good is getting certified and becoming a
"specialist" if you don't have the experience to back it up? Just
passing an exam isn't enough.
