adhoc connect at startup

Hi I have a laptop and desktop that i have connected wirelessly. They both
use the RALINK 2500 interface. When I first startup the network are not
visable by xp but is visable by RALINKS config panel. If I look at or change
the properties of the interface card from windows control panel the wzc
service seems to restart then the network is visable and connects.... Any
idea how to correct this so it connects at start up?
Also the network is on channel 1, how can I change this with wzc?
