I am realising that putting a blog into a HTML page might be too much
for my mind right now - so I am going to try another tact -
I am going to have a main index html only page AND a blog page BUT on
the main html page, I want to find a way to add the NEWEST blog entry
AUTOMATICALLY each time I update the blog. Is this something that is
doable with a little elbow grease?

The blog and html pages will be mine and updated feeds will come from
the information I put down.

Check out feedburner. It works with most blogging software and has tools
like Headline Animator that cycles through your recent posts.
