Some nice comments <http://theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=41565> from
the CEO of a company trying to offer a service to mobile phone users, about
the difficulties of working within the restrictions imposed by the network
operators.

In theory if a phone runs Java, it should be easy enough to load up a new
custom app, shouldn't it? But no--the operators don't want to make it too
easy. And why is it so hard to find out what number your customer is
calling from?

Contrast this with the Internet, where nobody dictates which applications
you can or can't run--and look at the sheer variety of applications people
have come up with, as a result.

Come on, the point is, that if the "Internet" had come from a different
source then I doubt that many of the possible people could read this.

Freedom is good, it is what democracy is based on. Pity that not all
people have grabbed hold of this idea..yet.
