I do have a 3Com router, but dont think thats the fault as its only started
happening since the last big Telecom screw up

If I get desperate, Ill try the Dynalink one I have kicking around.
D-Link stuff I wont touch - their Wifi stuff is dodgy as hell IMHO and their
standard modem/router units are touch and go.
