So almost immediately after I posted that it's working fine...

Don't know if it's related (I'm with Actrix) but I was playing on-line
during the wee hours and the game was atrocious with pings in the 2 second
range. I finished the quest I was currently doing as I was half-way through
and didn't want to repeat it. Then I started a new game so that I'd be on
another server to continue questing and it, too, was slow. If anything
slower. The game crashed due to 'lost connection' a few minutes later.

So I went to bed and read half of Kurt Vonnegut's excellent new book "Man
without a country"

Paraphrased quote from memory from the book:

"I've been chain-smoking unfiltered Pall Mall cigarettes for nearly 60 years
now (He's 74 or so) and for the last 20 years the manufacturers have been
telling me, right there on every packet, that they are going to kill me. I'm
going to take them to court and sue the for a billion dollars for not
keeping to their promise. The last thing I wanted was to be alive when the
three most powerful men on earth are named Bush, Dick and Colon".

It's a good book.

First time I've experienced anything like that since I've been on
3.5/512 and I've been on it for a few weeks now. It only seemed to be a
problem for about half an hour or so.
