Greetings all.

Cleared out an Xtra email account I monitor today after leaving it for a few
weeks.

The 'Inbox' contained 633 Spam emails, the 'Spam' folder contained 216
emails.
Total of 849 Spam emails received to this account for the period 14 Feb - 8
Mar 06

Detection rate = 25.4%
(best detection rate to date was around 50%)

It should be noted this is after reporting 11,000 + Spam emails from the
'same' sources with the same type of content over the last 12 months

Cheers
Paul.

If you control the mx record then I recommend the following service:

But did any genuine mail get trapped by the spam filters? I don't think
that the spam detection rate alone is a meaningful measure, because you
also need to look at the number of genuine emails trapped as a
proportion of spam messages not trapped. For example, a spam filter
with a 99% detection rate isn't much good if it also traps 50% of your
genuine mail.

Note that I'm not defending Xtra here, since their filters seem to have
chronic problems with trapping genuine mail.

Hi Alistar

It would be unfair to blame Xtra for the difficulties involved with
recognising Spam, it is as we all know an international problem.

My grumble is, that despite the (now) 12,000 reports I've sent, Xtra's Spam
reporting system is consistently failing to respond.

The account in question is not being used as a regular email address because
of this spam problem so does not really have any problem with false
positive's.
The only other emails the account received over that period were 2 'Max
Newman' newsletters and approximately 15 'your mailbox is full' messages
from Xtra' all of which were recognised correctly.
It should be noted the 'Spam' sources are always the same and that they are
all decidedly UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email) with lots of 'sales'
messages.

Cheers
Paul.

It seemed to be working ok for a few weeks, until the end of last week. Now
I am getting bombarded with spam again.
