hi,

when I'm playing stuff like COD and Half Life the image seems to tear
horizontally halfway down the screen.

This effect is minimal, and only happens with fast sideways movements (when
straffing for example).

Is this my video card or maybe my LCD screen (refresh of 12ms I believe)

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Make sure v-sync (vertical sync) is turned on, that should get rid of it.

Your monitors refresh rate is 60Hz, but your games are playing at a frame
rate above that. This causes the tearing. V-sync will synchronise the
game's frame rate to the monitor's refresh rate. This has nothing to do
with the 12ms response time.

The Refresh rate has nothing at all to do with it at all, but some MoBo
chipset's are just not compatible with the 6600GT..

Found a few references to this in a Forum..

May be a Google search will help.

Also use the new 83.40 Drivers..

Strange how Nvidia beta link does not have them IMHO. I thihk they should
be called alpha. So they work fine? I have the same card as the OP and
use this tweak only:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak]
"Coolbits"=dword:3

On my card this enables the Auto overclock feature.

These are Not Beta or Alpha as they are from one of the card makers and
carry the MS approval..
