Surely, there is a work around for the DRM? I don't use wma *at all* -
not even music offered for free, so I've never had to figure it out for
myself, though.

http://del.icio.us/search/?all=wma+drm might offer some solutions.

I doubt I will ever buy music in a DRM format (I'm not averse to buying
as straight mp3, though, if I had to).

Problem is, there is just too much legal, free music available now - for
example, now I'm working my way through the Chillits 2005 festival music
downloads, that's around 24 hours of music, all mp3, all free, and all
available by bittorrent right now.

"Original" has an "i" in it. And "off" has two "f"s.

What's your first language just out of interest? You spell reasonably
well, considering.

I have never used it myself, as I have never downloaded a DRM file,
but I came across a post of a file called drm2wmv.zip in a newsgroup,
which says it will convert a DRM file to something usable as long as
you have the ability to play the DRM file on your system (ie a legal
key for it).

This is not where I got my copy from, but it was the first URL Google
gave me when I looked up drm2wmv.zip, and it looks to be the same
thing:

No, you simply download a copy off the net in mp3 or ogg format and to hell
with self-serving, ****ed up copyright laws.

It is our duty to disobey stupid laws. It is the only way they will stop
making them.

Otherwise you are rewarding them for enslaving you.

The unmodified xbox cd reader will not read cdr reliably. Stupid, I know.

Reads cdrw, and dvd. But not cdr.

Don't think it does VCD or svcd format either.

Mod it and replace the drive with a decent ide one and install the
software, and it'll play anything. Even realmedia, xvid, etc files iirc.

But *I* DO say it does NOT have a place.
It is an abomination that benefits a few at the on-going expense of the
majority. It is straight out of the Dark Ages and ruins the chances of
future historians.

Additionally, DRM advocates (Like Disney) are some of the worst pirates out
there (think they wrote Snow White, etc? Think they paid for it? **** no.
But they will sue you for watching it on your Ipod).
But even DREAM of time shifting or converting 'there' material and you are
a criminal.

Wankers. Each and every one of them.

I regularly see many posts to this group with spelling and grammatical
errors, but this is the first one that I have seen you criticise (which is
very poor netiquette). In this thread there was a post a few hours earlier
by Robert Cooze with over a dozen spelling mistakes in just 2 paragraphs,
and you posted nothing in response.

This "Chinglish" attack may not be racially motivated, but it certainly
comes across as a racist post.

Please learn good netiquette and desist from criticising spelling or
grammar on perfectly easy to understand posts!

Some thinngs In NZ are compleatly leagle our copyright laws go to the
orignal owner or somthing like that and 50 years after death A lot of
orignal stuff is now copyright free so to speak of.

As for the xbox I know it can be modded like that but I WONT due to new
year resaluation for other reasons I wont tamper with it at all, as
well. This year am buying a PS2 for son In a way I baught it almost for
its tamper proof design (yes I know it can be chiped and modded) but
without a hard drive It is almost impossibal to get the virus and or
worm and spyware ect ect... But will have to put up with the sony DRM
but there is enough games out there in NZ.

Just a quick thught.

Does your sound card support recording the actual WAV or pcm channel I
can record any source including pcm and sterio mix. To record the song
to wave now there are several realy good proggies to record long wav's.
then convert the wav file to mp3 and you should be done.
