StoresOnline scam?

I work in the IT field, mainly technical support and whatnot.

I've had a customer just ring with me wanting to meet me so she can
discuss the 'opportunities' that an outfit called StoresOnline can offer
me and her. She also mentioned she had already brought "three websites".

The alarm bells had been ringing for a while when listening to her talk
so I decided to do a bit of research into StoresOnline and as predicted
a lot of warnings came up never to do business with them including stuff
from the Consumer institute NZ.

From what I gather they offer crappy webhosting/design at outrageous
prices to people that generally dont know much about Websites. But is
that all they do? She mentioned 'networks' and other 'businesses' so I
thought it was MLM at first.

Does anyone know exactly how they operate, is it just a simple "charge
huge amounts for something cheap" scam or is it something more insidious?

This customer expressed an interest in building a website to me a number
of months ago but I fear she has fallen into the wrong crowd.

Im going to meet with her in the near future, hopefully to disuade her
from dealing with StoresOnline. So I would like to know what I am
dealing with.

Cheers

Dogboy

Weren't these folk on Fair Go also a wee while back?

Clearly (Dogboy) - you should advise your client not to purchase any
more websites! - perhaps even see if she can get out of 'em - and get
a refund (doubt it though!

Why does this sound so familiar to me?
Was not this exact same scenario posted about a year ago?

Maybe, but it had nothing to do with me.

Ahh well, looks like Im going to have to break the news to someone that
they are being ripped off. Never a fun prospect.
