Differences in CPU & RAM speeds

Hi,

I'm trying to get an accurate comparison of the speed difference between
two systems which both use the Intel 845GV chipset.

One is a Celeron 2.53 GHz with PC3200 / DDR 400 RAM
The other is a Celeron 2.8 GHz with PC2700 RAM

What is the difference between PC2700 and PC3200 RAM in the FSB and other
speeds?

The CPU speed is a pretty small percentage and amounts to about $20 of
value at today's prices.

It's hard to make generalizations about differences that small. Some
applications will run better with the faster cpu, others will improve
with the faster ram. But it's usually a good idea to try to match the
FSB speed of the processor to the FSB speed of the ram, so if it were
up to me to choose between the two I'd probably opt for the Celeron
2.53/PC3200 kit.

There are some benchmarks here to give you a feel for the raw
difference in processor speed:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...alue-cpus.html

But keep in mind that these were all run on an i865PE board, which
would probably be slightly better all-around.

The price difference between a Celeron and a P4 is substantial. No-one in
their right minds would buy a P4 for any application when they don't need
the extra power.

I haven't played computer games since I was at school. I see no need to
spend hours playing games on a computer that could be used for more
worthwhile activities, like socialising with family or friends.

Tell me how can a PC socializing with family or friends, as to me the are not
a socializing thing at all.

Plus there are stacks of Adult type games, may you should look into them,
they would blow your brains out from what you have used in the past.

Like Far Cry and HL2

If you are after a simple Cheap PC go get the $999 Del at the Warehouse.

Reread what was originally written - the OP would rather use the
time spent on computer games doing other activities.

Bu you need a reasonable investment to really get the best out if it.

>If you are after a simple Cheap PC go get the $999 Del at the Warehouse.

Maybe - there are still benefits with going for a no-name brand over
something like a non-upgradable Dell.

I'd rather buy the cheap DSE package than the Dell. (Sempron 2200 CPU
and cheaper)

A lot of your 'mates' or 'maters' have a lot of problems, don't they?

Huh, you might not have seen any recent (last 3 years) games then, team play
with in game voice communication etc.
Sometimes I play games to socialise, I've made friends I still have today.

Forced to make the choice I'd take the machine with the faster RAM.

Blobby.

Food for thought... a mate of mine threw out his troublesome Celeron in
exchange for an AMD 64 and has never looked back. Absolutely awesome
machine.
