If all operating systems were Unix based then software could easily be
ported to any damn operating system at minimal cost. Noone is advocating
a return to the 80s when we all had Ataris, Commodores, BBCs, Spectrums,
etc. which all had completely different architecture.

Believe it or not, it's possible for people using different operating
systems to exchange emails with each other. Kind of blows your theory,
doesn't it?
I am not a fanboy of any particular operating system. I use the
Macintosh platform because it suits my requirements the best, but the
Windows and Linux platforms serve their own markets equally well. A
world with only one operating system would be a very sad world indeed.
