looks like a corrupted 'get' command. If you replace the first 'gt' with
'get' it resembles a command to load an image, followed by some of the
specifics of the message. Since the image has a CID, its (or was)
included in the message.

Since its in an email 'going around' why even bother with it. Sounds
like porn images to me.

I found that in some of the drug ads that used to appear in my mail.
The ad was in a picture rather than text or html. Clever. But what
does "cid:" mean? Is that like "ftp:"?

When content is included in a message it gets a CID number - Component ID

gt = "greater than", lt = "less than", the two symbols that start and end an
html tag. Must have been converted instead of interpreted by your e-mail
program. And somehow they're in the wrong order...
The rest is just a simple image tag; nothing funny going on. Don't lose any
sleep over it

What bothers me is none of the images are in the email (I can post the
whole thing if you want.) The first thing that came to mind was it is
some sort of address scraping scam. Or the images which you can
only see by going to the site contain .. what was that MS PrintKill

Component ID an identification number for multiple components within a
message
if you include one (or more) components in a message, each will have its
own CID so it can be called by the message and placed where needed.

for example:
a message may be /text/ <image> /text//text/ <image>/text/

the images are not listed within the text, they are seperate components.
a tag calls the image when its needed and places it as intended when the
message is displayed.

Its like a web page. Images are not always stored directly on the page,
but are 'called' from eslewhere (even a remote server!) when needed.
The user sees them where intended but they are not there in the message
source, they exist in another folder (or even on another server)

OK, Didn't know that, thanks Dan for that info.

I keep getting this icon popping up suggesting my launching an application with a related (familliar?) link: cid: 2CF4C0 that helps one to launch "old links." I suspect it came as a result of my downloading a Google web browsing tool called Web Accelerator. I never get odd pop ups like this unless its my firewall and spyware warning of something. I then had to remove this new program, but this new pop up continues. I feel a little bothered and invaded after a couple of years of freedom.

Any suggestions from the experts? Should I be concerned?
