Why is it that some of the most brilliant geeks, have little or no
common sense.

Geek friend 1:
Facing unemployment(already been given a finishing date in two weeks),
he goes and shells out ~$5k on a new pc, even though he has no job
prospects, and hasn't even started looking. He didn't need one, he just
wanted one.

Geek friend 2:
Paying ~2/3 of his weekly income as rent, just because "he likes the
look of the place", facing 4-6 weeks without work, goes and spends the
last of his saving and max's his Visa on a new machine. Again, no need
for a new one, just wanted another one.

I just don't get it... I mean I'm hardly the smartest person, but I can
see that the above two situations would have certainly been different if
I'd been there.
