Perhaps it was in a sense reporting the existence of them accurately

I'd noticed Google doing inconsistently odd things with tracking cookies
recently and was perhaps a bit jumpy to seize on your otherwise fine post!

I've an old subscription to NYT though and I just tried copying and pasting
the article without any such effect - but then, in my headers you'll see
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
I'm not sure what the "X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Original" means ...
Just curious. (A bare search on it is of little help (using old Moz 1.6)
