If you're totally new to hosting sites on a server then it's probably better
to let experienced people manage your hosting for you to ensure you have a
machine that's up 24x7 and not vulnerable to security attacks, and that has
a help desk that's available should anything go wrong.
If you're trying to cut down on the cost then there are several alternatives
where you lease a dedicated server which is managed by the hosting company
for you, or use a plan like that offered by Web Drive
http://www.webdrive.co.nz/pricing.php where you pay a base rate then a rate
per additional site and can onbill your customers however you see fit. They
have two plans 1) $30 per month for one site + $8 per month per additional
site, or 2) $60 per month for one site + $4 per month per additional site.
(I don't work for Web Drive, by the way, but I recently sold a web hosting
business to them, and they are excellent web hosting providers).
There are many companies in NZ, US and worldwide who offer excellent prices
on managed and dedicated servers. Type dedicated servers into Google and
you'll get a whole bunch of them.
