To check for updates? Run a startup editor and see if you can stop it
from starting up.

Ah lest start with WIn95. They were caught gathering info about all the
programs on the HD as part of the registration process.
MS claimed it was a mistake in the programming.
Evere wondered why NetBui(originall MS's recommended protocol for small
netwoks) is well & truly hidden on Xp & TCPIP is so hard disable. Could it be
that TCPIP is needed to phone home.
Dont even get me started on MS's involvement in the Moon Landing hoax.

So you're saying NetBEUI is now hidden on the moon?

That's probably a good thing!

No it isn't.

Netbeui is of very little use to most network users - it can't be routed.

I'm surprised to hear anyone even uses it these days.

Also, its one advantage of requiring next to no configuration, is no
longer relevant now that similar newbie friendly auto configuration
features are now part of MS and Apple TCP/IP stacks.

Its packets might be more efficiently sized than TCP/IP, but that
advantage will be quickly lost once the network bogs down in broadcast
packets.

LOL, that's the whole point why you would want to use NetBEUI. For a secure
internal network.

I would consider your defination of netbui being "secure" as a little
strange.
