My question: Are sufficiently PC old monitors suitable?


Alternatively, is there anywhere I can buy a scan doubler or converter?

I thought they used a TV..

Nope, a TV converter thingy was usually an extra.

No a TV with the guts out of it so it was just a Monitor..

Possibly one of the VGA boxes for the playstation could be made to work. Im not
sure if they take RGB in or something else however.

Otherwise get a tv with scart, that will do RGB and give the same flickery
picture you would get from an old comodore monitor. unless you go to a 100Hz tv

One of the original NEC multisync monitors would certainly do it.
Date of manufacture would be circa 1988-90. Other monitors from the
same era would probably be okay too.

Look for 'EGA' or 'CGA' support in their specifications.

Support for 15khz modes was dropped at around the NEC '3D' model IIRC.

....a google turns up several monitors that seem to be in current
production which claim to be able to do 15khz modes (though
they're evidently aimed at specialised markets).

Not many are. I have Atari ST's, which have the same problem with PC VGA
monitors. You'd be best to get a used Amiga monitor, since they will work.
An NEC Multisync 3D will also work, as will old Atari monitors (look for
models SC1224, SC1435), but the problem with ALL these monitors is that
they're all getting a bit long in the tooth, so you'd not expect much in
the way of quality picture...

Not sure. If you have a modern PC try emulating your Amiga! I emulate my
old Ataris under Linux, and benchmarks show that my emulator runs about
15 times faster than my 32MHz 68030 based Atari Falcon, on my 1100 MHz
AMD Duron based PC...

I'm pretty sure some good Amiga emulators exist...

That's why I'd like a newer solution. My old Amiga monitors are long gone
and a good second hand one is unlikely.

WinUAE is very good. Had it for several years. No compatibility problems
with it either as it emulates every single 68000 CPU
