Hi, i have a relatively new xtra email address, and in the last week, spam
mail multiplied 10 fold.

I was wondering if any other xtra customers have noticed this.

I get about a dozen notes per day from "Microsoft" requesting I run the
attach "fix".

And, heaps more notes from various sources saying the mail I never sent
could not be delivered....e.g...

If you're posting on usenet without mangling your "return to" email
address
you're more than likely to get picked up by spammers

I have an actual address for the newsgroups - which gets filed in the
deleted items folder automatically, But ive watched it and i get about 1 a
day, i get more with my regular email addresses!

Umm in your news settings somehwer probably
i see you're using outlook express, i'm not up to date on that (i use
turnpike)

Do you have your email address on a website anywhere?
You can html mangle that so the link works

This is not SPAM per se.

Someone who has you listed in their Contacts, is infected with the
Swen Worm. In fact, with the share number of emails you are getting,
there is a good chance that you are also infected.

Hi, thanks for the tip. This worm is a nasty piece of work...it can install
itself without opening the email message.

I ran the removal tool and it did not find anything, but my symptoms seem
quite close to the description of this worm.

I have norton av 2004 running, with email checking and worm checking enabled
in the options. And ,I auto update the microsoft critical patches all of the
time.

I'll run a full system scan to make sure there is nothing else.

You could well have a virus if you are getting undeliverable mail
messages that you did not send.

Update and scan.

No, it can install itself on unpatched copies of Outlook Express if you
preview OR double click on the message to "Open" it.
