Possibly a browser helper object such as a toolbar trying to do an
update.

Search google for "BHODemon", It'll list helper objects in IE; post
the list here.

Never fear Brendan, you'll get supplied with some standards. Unlike
some who inhabit this NG I work for a living, when I have the time
I'll get back to you. You're not going away, there's no rush.

In the meantime you might like to tell us all just what you do for a
living & what your involvement in the computer industry is. Last I
heard you hadn't worked for a considerable time, but since you've
decided to challenge the words of someone who earns a keep from the
computer industry one can only assume you're now gainfully
employed.....?

You've mentioned this repeatedly. You need a girlfriend.

But we could all be ruining the reputation of the industry without
them Gavin.

You could fit it in as part of your news group nannying.

Not that the information is relevant to the point of these industry
standards you alone claim to have possesion of. It can only be for a
David McLoughlin style character assasin.

But I'll tell you anyway simply so that I can claim to be more
forthcoming and accomodating than you:

I repair residential PC's. I do not reapir commercial installations
because I cannot gaurantee my health.

I repair the hardware, software and configuration elements for family
computers. In this I have success having never had anyone refuse to
pay and most of my customers return for other jobs even reccomending
my services to others.

Additionally I do the odd bit of warranty work for local retail
outlets (Farmers, PC Company mainly).

A bit of tutoring (which people have been enthusiastic in praising me
for. Apparently I have the knack for communication).

Additionally I have been hired a number of times to act as an Agent
for procuring PC's for people. I recognised that many people just have
NO idea of what or where they should buy from often buying something
over priced and under powered. Customers would ask me what they should
buy and in the end I started charging time for it (it can take an hour
or two going over the needs with a customer and finding retail or mail
order suppliers).

I have been doing this for several years now. I have been involved
with computers since the zx81 was a twinkle in Clives eye.

>Last I heard you hadn't worked for a considerable time,

You heard wrong. But that does not surprise me - you strike me as a
man inordinatly proud of himself and prone to believing what
sychophants and sympathizers to your own conceits, say.

It is true however that I cannot work full time anymore due to health.
I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and this coupled with increasing
side effects of medication (Prednisone) means that I cannot do as much
as I did even 5 years ago. This was made worse earlier this year with
the stress and depression after a close friend of my partner and I was
murdered. Brutally. Kicked to death for 20 minutes on a deserted road.

Any other invasive questions you need to amuse yourself with ?

I'd ask some of you, but we both know what I'd be told.

>but since you've decided to challenge the words of someone who earns a keep from the
>computer industry

One day you'll break your neck when that big head of yours jams in the
door frame...

1. I have no need to challenge you. I simply asked for the information
you alone insist you have. The results speak for themselves.

2. I reserve the right to question anyone I damn well please on any
subject I please. It has been MY experiance that no one is beyond
mistakes - even highly trained technicians like yourself - especialy
when they seem inordinatly impressed with themselves.

3. You may indeed feel your utterances SHOULD carry the weight of law
or religion, but thankfully they do not. I feel very comfortable
questioning your 'words'.

>one can only assume you're now gainfully employed.....?

Assume away.

In mortal fear of bringing down your wroth upon my head, I again point
out two facts:

1. You mouthed off and have no official 'NZ Industry Standards for PC
Repair' and are too gutless to admit it.

2. Your inability to cower me with your typical bullshit has propelled
you into familiar territory: character assasination, slurs and
irrelevant inferances. Politics by any other name, and surely the
refuge of the incompetent.

Feel free to prove me wrong at any time Gavin. You can start with the
now legendary Industry Standards, and finish with a detailed
description of your OWN personal circumstances.

I'll just not hold my breath, ok ?
