Looks like some ^%$& has signed me up to a porn mailing list. But this is
whats at the bottom. How do I trace the details.

You are receiving this mail because you signed up on 2003-07-11 21:01:19,
using the email address: ***ihug.co.nz from the IP: 61.9.192.172

There's a good chance that the IP is forged anyway. I've run into a number
of porn spam lists which put bogus signup data in as a way of scaring
people into not complaining.

And of course, a well-run mailing list uses confirmations, Anything else
isn't opt-in, as any bozo can put your address on a webform.

No this has been happening over the last few days. Some &^%* being a pest
signing me up to mailing lists.
One was a web host. One was addressed to Craig Mutton, obviously an aussies
idea of a joke. The webhost confirmed to me that this persons i.p address
was in Australia. So I have a strong feeling this is the same person.

I had a similar thing happen to me recently. I got an IP address off one of
the signups but unfortunately it was just the IP of the Clearnet proxy

Have has another response from another place that claimed i signed up to
receive info.. Shown below. had to threaten them to get the info but SAME
I.P address..

Hello,
I contacted our legal office to talk about your request.
Here is what the problem was we are not allowed to give out customer
information
without a court order.
But they told us it is ok for us to agree with your request, because first
the person who submitted the false info is not a customer of ours, and
second because he submitted your email address.

No read and you will see what I am talking about

First I got this email

Hello Craig Mutton,
You submitted you email for contact about hosting.
How can I help you?

http://www3.cbwhost.com/hosting/hosting.htm

and I responded back saying I had not submitted my address to them

(check their site you will see you can enter anyones address in the box they
provide its not an opt in list)

They replied

I don't know what is going on but I'm not laughing.
Your IP and his IP is both from Australia.
I guess stuff like this is found funny there but not here.

After a threat of legal action they came back with this.

I have given up trying to trace the baddies. What I do use is Mozilla
as my browser. It has built-in spam filtering for email. This learns
what you define as spam and in quite a short time it knows what you
define as spam, and can be instructed to either put it into a special
folder, or to delete it all together! I put mine into a separate folder
which I delete all of the contents of after having had a quick look.
There is never anything that I want in there now, but when I started
there were a few that got put there, but after about a month or so that
has stopped.

I get about 30 per day put into the SPAM folder which leaves two or
three that I have to look at by hand - a big improvement and saver of
time indeed.

regards to you all

John Fulton
