I am trying out the new Windows XP Pro x64 edition on a brand new build. I
downloaded the trial and I am planning on using it on my new build. Does
anyone know if this will work correctly or is the trial only good for a
reinstall over a previous XP 32-bit OS. I do have the necessary hardware
requirements for x64. Thanks!

The trial is a standalone install. It should work just fine. You need to
burn the ISO to a CD (not copy it as a file, but burn the image), and then
boot off the CD.

Hi Jeremy,

That was exactly what I did.

I installed the trial on a seperate partition. But if you find you like
it, you still need to install it on a clean partition. Why? The Drivers need
to be 64-bit Drivers. The current drivers for your devices are 32-bit.

Also the Briefcase Folder, if you use to download into, from the
Internet, doesn't work that is placed in your Desktop. You can't download
into the Briefcase Folder from the Internet. You need to download to the
Desktop, then move the Download into the Briefcase Folder.

The trial is a fully functioning copy of XP Pro x64 except that it is
time-limited (evaluation) copy. Treat as a standalone OS that you would
install on a new computer.

There is no relationship between XP Pro x64 and XP x86 other than
functionality. XP Pro x64 is not an upgrade or update to the 32-bit
edition. It is an alternative to XP x86 for users needing the extended
capabilities of a 64-bit OS. It must always be a clean install. There is
no upgrade path from x86.
