Outlook works fine from home - send and receive. But when I'm on the road,
I can receive email sent to me, but replies to this email get bounced back
as non deliverable so I have go directly into roadrunner's webmail to send
or to answer email.

Any obvious reason for this problem?

On the road you are using the smtp server of another provider and it
does
not recognize you.
You need to use webmail or you need to know which smtp engine you are
using
and put that into your outlook
