For some reason, Tbird is moving spam messages to the trash folder
rather than the Spam folder. Spam filters are setup to do this, but
its not working correctly.

What file saves these settings? Maybe I an delete the file and
reconfigure.

Recheck your Junk Mail Controls for each account
ensure that the folder selected for the spams is properly identified for
each account

Temporarily disable the automatic trash option as well (in Junk Mail
Controls)
just to see if that is impacting the situation.

Tried that, didnt work.

Any other ideas? Is there a file that saves these settings? Maybe I
can modify/delete it and start fresh.

Your link about Usenet Improvement is a pretty lame excuse to be "old
school". Whats wrong with using Google Groups for usenet, give me a
list? You state "people who post to Usenet via the clunky Google
Groups web interface are lamers" and "they have no idea what Usenet
is". Ive been using the usenet for a long time, and Google Groups
only makes it easier to post from any computer, not to mention search
old threads. Sure I use my newsgroup client at home, but whats wrong
with using GG from other computers?

It just sounds like you are "old school", and insist that everyone use
newsgroup clients ONLY. Please dont suggest I dig up my C64 from my
closet and connect to a bbs system thru my 2400 baud modem... lol

For one thing ...

(having trouble figuring out what I'm replying to? Yeah, me too. Keep
reading.)

.... the mish-mash of broken quoting (above) that is in your Google-based
post is something that a good news client doesn't do. And that's what
gwtc was referring to.

Yes, Google is a nice tool for when you're on the road with no laptop or
your usual access. Yes, it's a handy archive search tool. But,
frankly, if you're replying to a message that has dropped off of most
decent news servers it's probably so old you shouldn't bother responding
to it. And you need to learn which button to use to Reply or Google
creates this mangled reply structure. It's a royal pain in the butt to
try to decipher compared to replies made via direct-access,
well-performing, news clients.

And, by the way, most people in this group bottom-post, unlike what you
did. No one can force you to do anything but you'll get better
responses to your posts if you take some time and figure out what the
generally accepted practices are here and follow them. It's the old
"When in Rome ..." adage.

and to add what Ed said, learn how to post properly using
GoogleGroups. If you hit the reply link, the the entire replied to
message is whiped out. So, when you reply, nobody can figure out what
you're saying and what is being replied to. Instead, click on the
Show Options at the top, then click on the Reply link from there.
This way, when you reply the entire previous message is kept intack.
Now everyone knows whats going on.

Further, not everyone is using googlegroups to view these messages.
Some of us are using various usenet servers.

By snipping everything, you have removed the context.
The problem may be familiar to you (it is your problem afterall) but I
cant recall which of the dozens of problems I read each day in newsgroup
it was. Evidently, something to do with JMC or Spam, but whatever it
was I dont remember, and what I asked you to check or do neither can I
recall.

You may have the time to re-read each thread in each newsgroup you
visit, I dont.

its not really his fault. He's posting from googlegroups. He doesn't
know that he shouldn't click on the Reply link. He doesn't know that
he should click on the Show Options link at the top, then click on the
Reply link from there. Most posters from google just doesn't know
this. And, if you tell them, most simply ignore what you're trying to
say.
