I setup a Windows 2003 server Domain and have only 1 workstation joined to
the domain. the problem that i'm having is that i cant see both pc's from my
network places. when i click on entire network/microsoft netork/ i can see
my domain. When i click in the domain, it doesnt show any pc's. file and
print sharing is enabled. does anybody know what it could be? does group
policy have an option to disable this type of browsing?

Not sure what your sever is doing, but if it isn't offering DHCP then check
the configs on your PC nics and make sure you have netbios over tcp/ip
settings enabled. If you are running DHCP try a release and renew to see if
it knocks it into gear, if not check the DHCP server settings. It could be a
master browser problem and if that's the case check MS site for
troubleshooting browser problems. look for the browstat utility.

DNS is working seeing as you can get to each machine via UNC.

Try sharing a folder from each computer readable by Everyone, and see if the
computers show up in Network Places.

BTW, what OS is your workstation on the domain?

thank you all for your replies. teh domain name is borrerofamily.com (server
name: RM1SRV1) and the workstations name is (XPPRO1).
I have been doing research and i've seen in a couple of instances, if you
disable netbios over tcp/ip the my network places will appear empty. the
second i enabled it, i was able to see the computers again. if anybody knows
why this happens feel free to share itwith me plesae . What i'm trying to
do now is configure my dhcp server to hand out the option to enable netbios
over tcp ip. does anyone know how to do that? i've been searching with no
luck . lowdes, why should i set up WINS? i know that wins are for legacy
clients to resolve netbios name, but i have no legacy clinents on my small 2
client network lol

My Network places is available because the computer browser service builds
it. I is a hold over from the days of NT using NetBIOS names and LAN
broadcasts. Once you configure DHCP you should be good to go. Help and
Support on your W2k3 server will give you what you need to know, but you can
set some NetBIOS scope options. Get in there an play with it. Lots of fun.

Additionally, if you are building a test environment, at some point you will
want to set up WINS just to get familiar with it.

lowdes..you fsuckin' idiot you don't need WINS on a W2k3 server unless
you're running pre 98 or NT4.

John, do yourself a favor and never listen to a word that lowdes says to
you. He is a br@indumping penguin a$$fsuker that cheated on all of his
exams.

His word means nothing around here.

Good to see you got it your situation solved.
