I setup a Windows 2003 server Domain and have only 1 workstation joined to
the domain. the problem that i'm having is that i cant see both pc's from my network places. when i click on entire network/microsoft netork/ i can see my domain. When i click in the domain, it doesnt show any pc's. file and print sharing is enabled. does anybody know what it could be? does group policy have an option to disable this type of browsing? If you are running DHCP try a release and renew to see if it knocks it into gear, if not check the DHCP server settings. It could be a master browser problem and if that's the case check MS site for troubleshooting browser problems. look for the browstat utility. -- LRM MCNGP 7^2 LRM |

DNS is working seeing as you can get to each machine via UNC.
Try sharing a folder from each computer readable by Everyone, and see if the computers show up in Network Places. BTW, what OS is your workstation on the domain? ------------------------------------------ MCSE on Windows 2000 MCSA: Messaging on Windows 2003 MCSA: Messaging on Windows 2000 Retired U.S. Air Force =?Utf-8?B?VEJhY2tzdHJvbQ==?= |

thank you all for your replies. teh domain name is borrerofamily.com (server
name: RM1SRV1) and the workstations name is (XPPRO1). I have been doing research and i've seen in a couple of instances, if you disable netbios over tcp/ip the my network places will appear empty. the second i enabled it, i was able to see the computers again. if anybody knows why this happens feel free to share itwith me plesae do now is configure my dhcp server to hand out the option to enable netbios over tcp ip. does anyone know how to do that? i've been searching with no luck clients to resolve netbios name, but i have no legacy clinents on my small 2 client network lol "lowdes" <> wrote in message news:AdaKf.12596$... > Set up a WINS Server on the 2003 machine > > > "TBackstrom" <> wrote in message > news:37892687-AA0D-44C5-9DB7-... >> DNS is working seeing as you can get to each machine via UNC. >> >> Try sharing a folder from each computer readable by Everyone, and see if >> the >> computers show up in Network Places. >> >> BTW, what OS is your workstation on the domain? >> >> ------------------------------------------ >> MCSE on Windows 2000 >> MCSA: Messaging on Windows 2003 >> MCSA: Messaging on Windows 2000 >> Retired U.S. Air Force > > John Smith |

I is a hold over from the days of NT using NetBIOS names and LAN broadcasts. Once you configure DHCP you should be good to go. Help and Support on your W2k3 server will give you what you need to know, but you can set some NetBIOS scope options. Get in there an play with it. Lots of fun. Additionally, if you are building a test environment, at some point you will want to set up WINS just to get familiar with it. -- LRM MCNGP 7^2 LRM |
