Hi,
I recently purchased a Cisco 871 for my home. The main reason I got it
was to gain experience with IOS.
Anyway here are my problems:
I have tried to create 2 VLANS...the first is for my PC's.....the
second is for my Xbox 360.
VLAN 1 is connected to FastEthernet 0, VLAN 2 is connected to
FastEthernet 1.
Here is the problem....for some reason the Xbox 360 doesnt like VLAN 2.
It says it is unable to reach the DNS servers. But if I plug my
laptop into FastEthernet 1, and renew its IP address, VLAN 2 works
fine....it reaches the Internet fine, ipconfig /all shows the correct
DNS servers etc. This tells me that my DHCP pool is working correctly,
and that NAT is probably working correctly too.
And then if I plug my Xbox into FastEthernet 0 (VLAN 1), it also
behaves fine.
So to sum it up - the Xbox 360 only works on VLAN 1.....while the
laptop will work on either VLAN 1 or VLAN 2.
I dont think this is an ACL issue because even if I permit all ip, udp,
icmp, tcp, I still get the same problem. And since the correct IP
addresses are assigned to my laptop, I think I have the DHCP pool set
up correctly.
I am very new to Cisco, which is why I got this in the first place. Im
sure I missed something easy.
I am at work and dont have my config here....so unfortunately I cant
post it right now. But could someone please help me with the steps
needed to create VLAN's?
I do have 1 other question. My DSL uses PPPoE. I have the 871 set up
to use PPPoE, and it works fine. However, is there any way to make it
so it doesnt disconnect after a period of inactivity? My old Netgear
wireless router could do this......
Thanks in advance for any help.....
Mike
