BackgroundImage in a DropDownControl?

In ASP.NET 2.0, is it possible to use a background image in a dropdown
control?
Background color is ok enough, but a slightly horizontal fading color would
add that extra touch, so a horizontal faded image should be nice to use. So,
is it possible?
